Congrats also goes to the Wind Ensemble - for the first time West Salem has taken over the 1st place spot in the district for Wind Ensemble. We wish them the very best at State - this is proving to be a very exciting year!!

2) Saturday April 26, 7:30pm, the Salem Chamber Orchestra will perform in West's auditorium. The concert is called "An Evening in Italy". Here's some information from the website (www.salemchamberorchestra.org)

Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 4 in A Major, op. 90 (“Italian”)
Rossini: Overture to La Gazza Ladra
Mascagni: Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana Puccini: Selected Arias and Scenes

Salem Chamber Orchestra’s evening in Italy begins with Mendelssohn’s spirited “Italian” Symphony and concludes with a special tribute in honor of Puccini’s 150th birthday. It’s sure to be a night full of passion and drama! Ms. Silberman has some free tickets to offer to students - she will be asking students Monday and Tuesday how many tickets the family would like and she'll hand out tickets accordingly.

3) Auditions for placement in next year's orchestras begins next week. Each student at West and all the 8th graders wishing to play in a Titan Orchestra next fall will play some scales and a piece of orchestra music for Ms. Silberman next week.

4) Reminder - save the week of August 18, 2008, for Boot Camp! We will have a guest artist (TBA) work with the students, play some chamber music all together, have some instrument specific sectionals, and read some symphonic material with the winds and brass. Fee for camp is only $25 and Ms. Silberman looks forward to having a great turn out this year. Specifics about the times and exact days will be announced soon, but it's most likely going to be 4 of the days of that week, and probably from 9am - 1 or 2pm daily, with some extra time for students wishing to work on a contemporary music project (rock/jazz) and/or chamber music coaching.

5) Order forms for "Titan Orchestra" sweatshirts are being sent home this week. Please bring them back by Wednesday of next week - students do not need to bring money until the sweatshirts are in.

6) Some recent entries on the blog include the article from the Statesman Journal on the concert last Saturday, the article about the heavy metal group that was here recently, and the CCTV schedule. Please remember to check frequently. www.titanorchestras.blogspot.com
