Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations

Sinfonietta - Styres Rally

Emailed on Wed 2/10/10

Hi all,

Elizabeth Kirkpatrick found this... she says it might come in handy (I agree!):

I found a download of Styres' Rally here. Thought it may come in handy.

Here's the other link from the music publisher:

Those of you who missed sectionals today (there were a lot of sick and contracted kids, but quite a few 'oops I forgots' too) please make it a point to listen to one of these recordings and practice your part - at least the beginning thru 13 and 56 to the end.

Happy practicing!
~Ms S.

Orders must be in by February 10 - payment can come before the concert.

2) On Sunday Feb. 14, the Salem Community Concert Assoc. has their annual Chocolate Sunday fundraiser. More chocolate than you could possible imagine, and some lovely music to boot (members of Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonietta will play chamber music pieces and maybe a few other selections) - all for whatever donation you'd like to make at the door. At 3pm, the organist for the Elsinore will perform and lecture about the Mighty Wurlitzer - if you've never heard it, it's quite a treat! Hope you can come to this worthy fundraiser... and enjoy some chocolate.

Students who will be performing that event, please wear your concert black and be prepared to arrive about 1:30... you'll be done by 3 when the organist performs, but you really should stay to hear that performance - maybe he'll show us the organ loft again... that was really cool last year!

3) The Chamber Music concert on Feb. 2 was a grand success - I heard great comments from parents, members of the public who wandered in, and the faculty guest performers. Thanks to one and all for such a special evening! If you're interested in seeing the student videos of their performances from finals, you can go to our video webpage on YouTube - www.youtube.com/user/titanorchestras - click on "see all" under "Uploads" to see all 19 video options.

4) Symphony will have a few Thursday rehearsals to accomodate director schedules, and to prepare for the Carlos Kalmar clinic coming in March. Please take note on the updated calendar that has gone home.

5) All students have received an updated semester 2 calendar. Parents are expected to sign the half sheet to make sure the dates get on to calendars and to make sure that everyone's receiving these communication emails. If there are any conflicts or issues that come up as you peruse the revised calendar, please contact Ms. Silberman sooner rather than later. It's going to be a busy, but musically rewarding second semester! Thanks for staying on top of everything!

BOOT CAMP 2010 - Monday through Thursday Aug. 23 - 26. Chamber Orchestra 9am - 1pm, Sinfonietta and String Orchestra 9am - 12pm. Fee for camp will only be $40 - this includes some dynamic performances, snack, and any other materials that are needed. This is a mandatory camp - all students participating in the 2010-2011 orchestras are expected to attend - this allows for all students to reconvene after a summer off - to get their hands on their instruments and re-adjust to group orchestral settings, before the craziness of the new school year kicks in. Of course, as always, Ms. Silberman will handle issues that come up on a case-by-case basis (like marching band, soccer and other sport camps, and family vacations), but do please keep in mind that I announce this camp in February to give families a lot of time to make plans to help ensure that all musicians can make it to this important Boot Camp.
