2013 Final Project *revised 5/22


Orchestra Final: Performer or Composer Final Project – due June 4, 2013      Points 30

Objectives:
1.1              To learn more about a specific performer or composer
1.2              To use the internet to investigate – biographies, interviews, video clips, audio recordings, concert schedule, fan pages, histories, recordings
1.3              To write compellingly about a live performer by creating an interactive piece of media to display your knowledge

Final presentation: Turn in your project (make link accessible to Ms. S) by 2:30pm Tuesday June 4. Present your project in class June 4 (seniors and 1/3 of others) or June 5+6 (all others)

Project outline: You will choose a composer or performer in any genre of music. Using the internet or library sources, you need to research this composer or performer. You need to have the following information gathered:
  • Important dates for this person (as a timeline)
  • Important works they performed or composed
  • Context about their lives – where do/did they live, when do/did they live, what influences are/were important to them, scope of their work (how many, where, etc…)
  • Video and/or audio links online for us to see/hear
  • A statement about their value as a composer/performer to the greater musical world
  • A statement about their value to you
  • Cite your sources, including anything you find on the internet

Your project will be graded as follows:

30pts       All information is presented clearly, on time, using correct grammar and punctuation. Information gives the observer a full picture of this composer/performer. Sources are cited.

25pts       All information is presented, but project is either late or the information isn’t complete. Grammar and punctuation is correct.

20 pts      Some information is given about composer/performer. Grammar or punctuation isn’t always correct. Elements of research are missing

15 pts      Project is incomplete and/or late
