(Red Priest Vivaldi!!!) 1) Don't miss RED PRIEST this weekend!Salem is so lucky - the European baroque group Red Priest is here in Salem. Here's their website - http://redpriest.bandzoogle.com/fr_home.cfmThe Italian composer Vivaldi was known as the Red Priest as he was a Jesuit priest with a shock of red hair. This group performs baroque music (from 1600 -1750) on traditional instruments - baroque violin and cello, harpsichord, and wood recorder - with lots of flair and musical theatrics! They are simply amazing to watch and hear. If you want to hear them in recital, go to Willamette's Fine Arts series concert tomorrow (Fri) night at Hudson Hall at Willamette University - click HERE for info. Adults are $23 and students with ID are $8. Saturday morning they are playing with Salem Chamber Orchestra at our dress rehearsal - click HERE for a free student voucher (parents are $5) - the rehearsal is from 10-12:30am. Sunday they play with Salem Chamber at 3pm at Hudson Hall for the concert. Click HERE for Salem Chamber Orchestra info.2) Symphony competition festival tomorrowSymphony is off to George Fox University tomorrow, Friday March 8, to compete at their Band festival. We'll get to hear West's Wind Ensemble compete/perform at 12:45 and then we perform at 2:15pm. Students have been given the itinerary. If the festival runs late, we might be back a little later than 4:30pm. This is the first of 2 or 3 festivals we compete at that can qualify us for the OSAA State Full Orchestra championships in May - best of luck, Titans!!3) Chamber concert Monday - at Capital Manor 6:30pmCapital Manor, here in West Salem, has invited Chamber Orchestra to perform again! We will be playing our brand new "State Set" and featuring soloists from this past weekend's district Solo and Ensemble. The concert starts at 6:30pm - parents and friends are welcome to attend!4) Big Trip rehearsal next Friday (day off)Next Friday, Marcy 15, is a grading day - no school for high school students. But, that's a GREAT opportunity for the Big Trip to finish up rehearsing as a big group. All Big Trip students are requested to attend rehearsal from 1-3pm. Bach, Mozart, Playful Pizzicato, Dreaming, Sweet Georgia Brown, and Orange Jam.5) Donut orders due!Big Trip students have a deadline coming up for Krispy Kreme donuts - money and order forms are due Monday (March 12)! 6) Congrats of Solo and Ensemble kidsThank you to all the students who played solos and ensembles last weekend at our district's Solo and Ensemble festival at McNary. Congrats to Hendrik for placing 2nd in the district and being nominated as an alternate to go to State, if there's room.7) Apply for a free guitar!!A group in town called the Valley Future Music Fund is offering application for a free guitar - I'm not sure how many they're giving away, but it's worth it to fill out the application if you're interested - acoustic or electric. All you need to do is fill out the application and write a one page essay about your love of music. Here's the link - good luck! http://www.vfmf.org/ValleyFutureMusiciansFund_Application.pdf 8) Check out this video... (Red Priest Vivaldi!!!!!)
