1) Music Day is tomorrow - Saturday the 8th - 8am - 4pm (maybe a touch earlier)
Music day is our biggest fundraiser other than Titan Auction (in November). Thank you to students and driving parents for volunteering time! The whole A wing - band, choir and orchestra - spread out around West Salem and go door-to-door asking for donations of money or bottles/cans.
Student info:
Students have already signed up - all 10th-12th grade students and freshmen in Sinfonietta and Chamber.
Students need to arrive at 8am to check-in. Please wear your Titan Orchestra shirt. If you don't have one, you will be provided with one. Wear formal black on the bottom. Make sure shoes you wear are good for walking in - black is preferred. We want to look as formal as possible.
Driver info:
Please arrive at 8am to pick up your route information. If you haven't turned in your insurance forms, please bring them with you tomorrow! Thank you for your time!!
2) Annual Mandatory Parent Meeting is Wednesday the 12th
Calling all parents - students too - for the annual Titan Orchestra program kick off meeting. There will be a sign in sheet for all students - either a parent or a student must be represented. If you are unable to attend, you will be sent an email with information to check out - and beware, if you're not in attendance, you might be volunteered to help on a committee (wouldn't it be better to come to the meeting to choose what you'd like to do??). The Titan Orchestra program does not exist without parent volunteer help. We are looking for everything from committee chairpeople to parents willing to help monitor doors at performances. Every little bit helps!
3) Juniors and Seniors - College night is the 12th too
After the Parent meeting, at roughly 7:45pm, we'll have a college information night. This year the meeting is open to the district music students - so we might have band and choir students and/or orchestra from other high schools. Robert Ponto, director of bands at University of Oregon, will be on hand to answer general and specific questions about music in college. Students and parents have picked up a lot of information at this meeting in years past. Please stay if you have questions about music in college!
4) What's due when?
Here's a quick list of upcoming deadlines and dues:
*Students not attending music day have an assignment due on Monday Sept. 10
*Syllabus signature sheet is due on Monday Sept. 10
*Fair Use Fee is due by September 28 ($40 for non-symphony or Big Trip students, $90 for Symphony and Big Trip students)
*Pencils and Kleenex is due this next week!
*Binders and composition books are due at school
*Have music books at home for home practice...
5) Chamber's doing a great job recruiting 4th graders!
For the first time in West Salem, the Chamber Orchestra is collaborating with Mr. Shippy and Mr. Balch to help recruit new 4th and 5th graders to play strings. We will visit all 5 elementary schools by next Tuesday. Then the 4th/5th grade string orientation evening will be held at West in the auditorium next Thursday where Chamber will play for the new string parents. Thanks to the students for their hard work - they've put together a great 25 minute presentation!
